Robin Edwards trained as a quantity surveyor, later working as an insurance loss adjuster, tent erector and timber salesman amongst other occupations, returning to the construction industry in Western and Eastern Europe, and the Middle East as a Project Manager for the British Aircraft Corporation, during which period he was attached to the Sultan of Oman’s armed forces and travelled extensively in the remotest quarters of regions, like Dhofar and the Rub al Khali.
He has worked in television for thirty years as a writer, producer and director of broadcast and commercial programmes, founding Wyvern Television, a pioneer in the film-to-video revolution, and amongst the most important independent production houses of the 1980’s, winning dozens of international awards for creativity, innovation and excellence. Reviewing the company’s work, prestigious Broadcast magazine concluded, “We have come to expect a high degree of wit and intelligence in Wyvern’s programmes…”
In the 1990’s he co-founded Westcountry Television the ITV regional broadcaster for South West England, winning its franchise on its innovative approach to local news dissemination; Canal 2 Televizuena Romana with Capital Cities/ABC the American broadcaster, CanWest Global Communications and state broadcaster Televizuena Romana; Wyvern Rodgers Television with comedian Ted Rodgers and producer/director Brian Izzard, developing entertainment programming; EBC Ltd, a communications company specialising in integrated media solutions to corporate issues. EBC was in the vanguard of the development of on-line learning academies where students learn, are examined and certificated on line.
In more recent years he was worked throughout Eastern Europe as a television programme consultant developing soaps and situation comedy, as well as acting as communications advisor and speechwriter to corporations and politicians, and as General Manager of Business Digest, the region’s largest circulating economic/political magazine.
He now writes full time and has published two novels, Slaves! for children, and The Borgia Fraud.A second children’s novel, Enemies!, will be published mid-year 2008, and a new novel The Incubus, which places Romania’s Ceaucescu regime in league with the Vampire, will also be complete mid-2008.
